Setting Up SMS Text Reminders
Text messages have higher open rates than email. Here's how to use SMS for wedding communications.
SMS Feature Overview
What you can send:
- RSVP deadline reminders
- Wedding day reminders
- Event time confirmations
- Last-minute updates
Pricing:
- Pay-per-message: $0.05/SMS
- Bulk packages available (save 20%)
- Only charged for sent messages
Enabling SMS
- Go to Dashboard > Settings > Notifications > SMS
- Click Enable SMS Notifications
- Purchase SMS credits
- Configure your message settings
Collecting Phone Numbers
Guests can provide phone numbers:
During RSVP:
- Enable phone field in RSVP settings
- Mark as required or optional
- Explain why you're collecting it
Importing:
- Add numbers in bulk via CSV
- Update individual guest profiles
- Validate number format
Format requirements:
- Include country code (e.g., +1 for US)
- 10 digits for US numbers
- We'll format numbers automatically when possible
Scheduling SMS Reminders
Set up automated texts:
RSVP Reminders:
- Go to Settings > RSVP > Reminders
- Enable SMS reminder option
- Set timing (3 days before deadline)
- Customize message
Wedding Day Reminders:
- Go to Settings > SMS > Scheduled
- Click "Add Reminder"
- Choose timing (day before or morning of)
- Write your message
- Select recipients
Message Content
Character limits:
- Standard SMS: 160 characters
- Messages can be longer but cost more
- Keep messages concise
Example messages:
*RSVP Reminder:*
"Hi {firstName}! Just a reminder to RSVP for Alex & Jamie's wedding by Dec 15. RSVP here: {link} 💍"
*Day Before:*
"Tomorrow's the big day! Alex & Jamie's wedding is at 4pm at The Grand Venue. Can't wait to see you! 🎉"
*Day Of:*
"Today's the day! Ceremony starts at 4pm. Address: 123 Main St. See you soon! 🎊"
Managing Recipients
Who receives SMS:
- Only guests with valid phone numbers
- Only guests who have opted in
- You can exclude specific guests
Opt-in requirements:
- Guests consent during RSVP
- You can send to imported numbers you collected
- Include opt-out instructions in messages
Sending Manual SMS
For immediate messages:
- Go to Guests > SMS
- Click Send Message
- Select recipients (all, attending, or specific)
- Write your message
- Preview and send
Opt-Out Handling
Automatic:
- Guests can reply STOP to opt out
- They're removed from future SMS
- You can see opt-out status in their profile
Manual:
- Guests can request removal via email
- You can mark guests as "no SMS" in their profile
Cost Management
Tracking usage:
- View credits remaining in Settings
- See messages sent per campaign
- Export send reports
Buying credits:
- Individual: $0.05 per SMS
- Bundle 100: $4.50 (save 10%)
- Bundle 500: $20 (save 20%)
Best Practices
Timing:
- Send reminders 1-3 days before events
- Avoid very early morning or late night
- Consider recipient time zones
Content:
- Keep it short and personal
- Include essential info only
- Add personality with appropriate emojis
- Always include your names
Frequency:
- Limit to 3-4 texts total per guest
- Don't duplicate what you sent via email
- Reserve SMS for high-priority messages
